I joined NetSafe in April 2009 to work on e-learning projects and the development of online resources for young people, parents and teachers.
I’m now heading up our new National Cyber Security Initiative (NCSI) – an education and awareness programme being developed in partnership with the Ministry of Economic Development, other government partners and members from New Zealand industry – a key part of New Zealand’s Cyber Security Strategy.
I worked for over a decade in the UK new media sector after originally training as a journalist and have spent time developing commercial products with publishers including Mirror Group, News International and the Financial Times.
For several years I specialised in online community moderation and management and was employed briefly by the search engine AltaVista (before the rise of Google!).
In my last role in the UK, I worked for the communications regulator Ofcom who promoted projects undertaken by various media literacy and cyber safety organisations.
I now follow cyber security developments in NZ and around the world with a particular interest in smartphone safety and security and blog on various internet issues.
