Advertising gimmicks
If you get an email from someone that sounds like they know you and says you have been corresponding, be suspicious. Here’s an example:
‘Hey,
Great to hear from you the other day. You sound really interesting and I like meeting new women. I think we will have a lot in common. I’ve got a new website address ….’
It’s not addressed to you personally and you haven’t a clue who this person is, so just delete. Chances are it is a come-on to get you to an advertising or pornography site and was sent out as spam. When such solicitations get into the realm of fraud is when they want you to send your credit card details for some reason.
