Spam or unsolicited electronic messages have become an unfortunate reality of the online environment. New Zealand has recently created legislation to start to deal with messages which have come from New Zealand. Read on to find out about the new Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007.

Who needs to read the Act?
The Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007 (the Act) takes effect on September 5, 2007. The Act applies to all New Zealanders, and governs the sending of commercial, electronic messages. The definition of a commercial message is quite broad any company or organisation that uses email to communicate with the public should read about the Act, and take steps to ensure that they are in compliance.
