Here in New Zealand we know there are a growing number of 'Hector classrooms' and 'Hector schools'. Here are some of the things you could do, whether in New Zealand or elsewhere:
- Install the Hector's World Safety Button™ on classroom computers or ask the ICT Manager if this can be done on all machines in the school's computer suite (if that is your school's set-up).
- Encourage parents of your students to do the same at home. You can send home an information sheet with the appropriate links so that Hector can be part of the child's use of the computer when at home and with their parent or caregiver involved.
- Using a live broadband internet connection, you can view the episodes online with the class. (They will be available on DVD later this year).
- Go through the suggested lesson plans for each episode for ideas on classroom activities that can strengthen the learning outcomes for your students. Research on our pilot episode has clearly shown that children have their learning most successfully reinforced when there is classroom discussion that expands on the messages in the episode. The optimal situation is for their learning to be reinforced at home as well.
- Connect with other teachers and share ideas about the use of Hector in the classroom, which you can do online in the new Hector's World™ Teachers' Forum.

- Display the new 'Connect with Hector' poster in your classroom (above). In New Zealand you can order resources here. As Hector moves into other countries, materials like this will become available through our Education Partners.
