Preventing Cyberbullying

Preventing cyberbullying on social networking sites

Even if you have had a bad day and feel like letting off some steam online – you might like to think twice before you post something about another person. Other people can get hurt by what you say online – especially if you are saying it in front of the whole world! When you are online it is important to follow the rules and treat people nicely. Otherwise you can get into some serious trouble and may get banned from your favourite websites.

Tips for making sure you don’t bully someone else:
• Don’t say anything mean to anyone online

• Writing in CAPSLOCKS makes you look like you are shouting so whatever you say is WAY WORSE!SAME AS EXPLANATION MARKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

• If you want to send someone something you think is a joke, remember it may not be funny to the other person and lots of people can see it. You can get into serious trouble for upsetting someone else online.

• If you keep being mean or annoying people online your profiles/webpages will be deleted by the people who run the website.

• If you want to say something about someone you know, ask yourself if your friend would mind you sharing that information with the whole world. Anyone from around the world can see what you post.

• Your friends might not like you posting ‘funny’ photos of them online, especially if they look really silly. Always ask permission from your friends and your caregiver before posting photos.

Remember treat people online the way that you yourself would like to be treated. It is no fun being banned from the websites that everyone else is using because you have been mean to other people.
