Pxting

Texting: Pxting

Pxting is when you send photos or videos to someone using your mobile phone.

Read the story below and then answer the questions at the end to learn more about pxting.

Tom had just got a really cool new phone which could take photos and send pxts. He was with his friend Simon at the pools one day and took some photos of Simon in his togs. Simon saw the photos and asked Tom to delete them because they were embarrassing.

Instead of deleting the photos, Tom decided to send one to his sister Paula, who he knew Simon had a crush on.. When Paula didn’t txt back he looked at his outbox and saw that he’d accidentally sent the photo to the wrong number! Tom didn’t really think anything of it and was just annoyed that he wasted 20 cents.

A week later, Simon and Tom decided to type their names into a search engine on Simon’s computer. When Simon entered his name, he was shocked to see the photo that Tom had taken of him at the pools come up! It was on a website called ‘Rate my Photo’, along with lots of photos of people that Simon didn’t know. Some people had written mean comments under the photo.

Simon was really angry and couldn’t understand how the photo had gotten onto the internet. After all, he’d asked Tom to delete it! He turned to Tom, who was looking really guilty . . .

What do you think happens next?

What would you do if you were Tom?

It’s a good idea to ask permission before you take someone’s photo, and definitely before you pxt it to someone. Always double check that the number you’re sending the pxt to is the right one; imagine what could happen if a really embarrassing pxt gets sent to someone you don’t even know!

Top Tips
• Always ask the permission of people who are in the photo/video before taking it.
• A pxt which might be funny to you may be really embarrassing to someone else. A good way to tell if you should send a pxt is to ask yourself: “Would I mind if this photo was of me?”
• Double check that you’re sending the pxt to the right number before pressing ‘send’
• Don’t send pxts to people you don’t know
• If you get a pxt which makes you feel uncomfortable tell an adult
