Talk to a safe offline adult

From time to time, even the most careful surfers may come across information that upsets them. Remember, if you accidentally see something online that worries you or grosses you out, it’s not your fault!

Top tip

Always tell an adult (one you know face-to-face, not just online) if you come across something disturbing while surfing the net. They can help you get the website off the screen, as well give you information and support about what you saw.

Sometimes when you tell a parent and caregiver about something dodgy online, they may react by getting upset or angry. This isn’t your fault. Some people can look like they are angry or upset because they are concerned about your safety. Adults and kids can call or email NetSafe to talk about upsetting stuff online.

If you would like help to talk to your caregiver about something you have seen online, email us and tell us about what has happened.
