Sending pics
Another way of sharing photos and videos online is through email or IM (instant messaging).
Sometimes we can feel very close to the friends we make online, but we still need to be a little careful when sharing photos and videos with them, particularly if the images involve other people.
The same rules for asking permission before posting images online also apply for sending images via email/IM.
Did you know . . .?
Even though people we meet on the internet can seem like really close friends, we don’t actually know that they’re being 100% upfront with us. The person who says they’re a 12 year old boy living in Melbourne may actually be a 40 year old who lives in Wellington! Because of this, we need to be careful about what we tell them about ourselves and our life.
Lucy's story
Lucy has some friends on IM that are saying they’d like to see some of the photos from her birthday party. None of them were at the party and she’s never met them in person, but she’s been IM-ing them for a few months so they’ve become quite good friends.
Lucy figures that her friends who were at the birthday party will be ok with her sending the photos to her IM buddies, as they all agreed to them being posted online, so she sends them to her IM friends.
