How to set up your online character
Setting up your online character
Most of the kid’s social networking sites let you choose what your character will look like by offering you a range of avatars (preloaded pictures of an animated character) to choose from. Even though your real photo wont be up on the net, it is still important to only use a nickname (not your real name).
Here are some more tips for when you are chatting with your mates online;
• Never give out personal information, such as your real name, age, location, phone number or school.
• Never share your password with anyone except your parents. If someone else gets it, they might pretend to be you, give out your personal information or do something to get you into trouble. Remember not to reply to emails asking for your password or logon information.
• Tell your parents if something makes you feel uncomfortable, or if someone asks you for personal information.
• Choose a username that does not give away your real identity in any way. Avoid names that let people know if you are a boy or girl, or even which country you live in.
• Avoid chat rooms that are not monitored by moderators.
When you are old enough to use websites like bebo and facebook it is important to be careful about what information you put on the internet and always set your profile to private!:)
