Safescreen
www.safescreen.net
Safescreen provides active, real-time prevention from unexpected exposure to unwelcome images, such as pornography, for the whole family no matter how they arrive on your PC. SafeScreen sits resident on personal computers and laptops, watching screen content for inappropriate or illegal image content. Regardless of the source, when an improper image is viewed, the image is immediately blurred and a record is created in a machine specific audit log. SafeScreen's intuitive Parental Control features allow the parent to override blurring should an image be considered to be benign in nature by entering a Parental Control password.

http://www.itcompany.com/cyberalert.htm
Parents CyberAlert is a software tool that monitors online activity, designed to help parents protect their children from the danger of online predators along with other potentially harmful online activity. It gives non-technical parents the ability to easily and quickly track their children's online activities at the level they feel is appropriate. Parents CyberAlert also has the capability for sending e-mail alerts for potentially unsafe activity, along with one-step blocking of websites and applications.

SimGuard - Helping protect children from porn on the Net

http://www.simguard.net/?companyId=161

SimGuard is a simple to use product that allows parents and employers to easily monitor the Internet use of their children and employees.  SimGuard does not attempt to block websites but assists in the education of parents and managers in the Internet habits of those for whom they are responsible.

Reports can be viewed from any Internet access point and reports are generated in real-time.  Education, open and honest discussion and family support are the best defences against pornography.

To access a recent review from NetGuide Magazine, which gave SimGuard a 5 star rating for value, click here: http://www.netguide.com.au/magazine/pulp/61/review.php

Activity Monitor **

Platform: Win 95/98/NT/2000/ME

Price: Freeware

Site:  www.activityrecorder.com

Download: http://members.home.net/activityrecorder/activity1.exe (260k)

As much as I decry Spyware, and in fact any software that can be used to spy on, or monitor a computer user’s activity, I do agree there can be a place for it. Take Activity Recorder for example; a small application that sits in the task bar and maintains a log of all activity on the particular machine. While it could be used to monitor and record the software run and sites visited by your children, it can also be used to keep a record of what you ran on your machine at what time. That’s to say the software itself doesn’t really present the ethical challenge, but the use it is put to can. There’s not a lot more to tell about this application; a more bells-and-whistles version is available as shareware, but for basic activity recording, this freeware version does the job.
