The Net Generation

The Net Generation: Internet Safety Issues for Young New Zealanders is the largest survey of young people and the Internet done in New Zealand and one of the largest internationally. These results clearly show us the degree to which children and young people have successfully incorporated the Internet, and communication technologies in general, into their lives. The results also validate the earlier findings of 'Girls on the Net'. The key question is whether children and young people are using the Internet safely. Some respondents certainly are very aware of safety issues, but a considerable number are engaging in behaviours that put them at risk. This survey can help us continue to develop effective education so that all young people can enjoy the Internet safely.
