What's New

  • New ‘Cybercitizenship Pathway’ for teaching online safety in your classroom

NetSafe has just launched a ‘Cybercitizenship Pathway’ to help teachers integrate online safety and security education into their classroom programmes. The pathway is the first of its kind in New Zealand , providing suggested activities across a range of curriculum areas, and reflecting the national curricula for early childhood and primary and high school levels. Click here to find out more….

  • Helping young people deal with upsetting online content

NetSafe’s Contact Centre frequently receives calls from concerned teachers wanting to help students who have been upset by online content they've accidentally accessed (e.g. material that is inappropriate for their age or developmental level, or which is illegal for them to view). We have recently published some material in our Parents section on how to help a young person who is distressed about what they’ve seen online that will also be relevant to teachers, counsellors and school management. Click here to read the guidelines.

  • Keeping safe with Web 2.0 technologies

NetSafe was pleased to be asked to contribute a video on ‘Keeping Safe Online’ to CORE Education’s Time4Online conference held in 2007. Time4Online provided an opportunity for teachers to use the internet to discuss the application of Web 2.0 technologies in their teaching and learning. Click here to view NetSafe’s presentation, or here to read teachers’ posts about the clip from the conference’s online cybersafety forum.

  • Are you using Hector’s World™ with your students?

An online forum has just been launched for teachers who are using Hector’s World™ cybersafety resources with their students.

At NetSafe, we regularly receive feedback about Hector’s World™ from teachers who are using the Hector’s World™ animated episodes and associated lesson plans, colour-in story books and the Hector Safety Button™ in their classrooms. The recently launched Hector’s World™ forum is a way for the teachers to connect with each other to brainstorm and collaborate.

No matter what type of education setting you work in, the Hector’s World™ forum can be a great source of information and inspiration for you. The forum will also be moderated by cybersafety experts who’ll be on hand to answer your questions. You can read more about the forum here, or check it out here.

  • Sign up to the NetSafe School Alert

NetSafe School Alert is an 'early warning' system for when NetSafe becomes aware of a cybersafety issue that could impact on school and student safety. If your school would like to receive these free 'heads up' emails, just register by emailing your school's name, address and phone number to netsafeschoolalert@netsafe.org.nz.

NetSafe will not use your contact details for any other purpose other than email alert notices.
