The Guest Editor of this page is Deb Struthers. Deb has worked on TKI for a number of years in her role at Multi Serve Education Trust and is also a Member of the Internet Safety Group. With Deb's help, our links between NetSafe and the extraordinary educational site TKI can grow stronger. On this page she will keep us appraised of the latest TKI developments.
What is Te Kete Ipurangi?
Te Kete Ipurangi (often referred to as TKI) means "the online basket of knowledge". It is a bilingual website for New Zealand schools, funded by the Ministry of Education.
There is a wealth of information on TKI. The site is primarily organised into community areas. There are communities for each of the essential learning areas, including Maori education, governing and managing New Zealand schools as well as initiatives from the Ministry of Education.
TKI also provides.
-
curriculum-based resources and information, commissioned by the Ministry of Education
-
links to thousands of relevant websites, rigorously assessed for quality and
-
a bilingual search engine.
TKI is continually evolving as a unique collection of material for schools, and as a portal to the wider world of education.
Who is it for?
TKI is primarily for New Zealand teachers, principals, and school managers. The aim is to provide quick access to useful, quality-assured information for busy educators. Every day, as many as 3000 people visit the site.
Who owns it?
It is owned by the Ministry of Education. Multi Serve Education Trust and CWA New Media manage and develop the site on behalf of the Ministry.
New developments on TKI
Have you ever used "Favourites" or "Bookmarks" to store your favourite
websites so you can find them again later? TKI Kete on Te Kete Ipurangi
functions in the same way and it's absolutely free!
Using the newly developed TKI kete function, you can save different types of
resources, including websites, in your own space on TKI. This way you can
access your favourite resources from any computer with Internet access.
You can use TKI Kete to collect your favourite resources and, if you wish,
share them with others online.
TKI Kete lets you create your own reference collections. You can create as
many collections, or kete, as you like, based around a topic (e.g. plate
tectonics), a resource type (e.g. maths interactives), or for a group of
sites which are suitable for students to use.
