ULearn07
Thank you to the many teachers who packed out NetSafe’s four cybersafety workshops at ULearn07, held at the Sky City Convention Centre in early October. There was standing room only in all of the workshops and we’re sorry that some of you missed out. Whether you attended or not, please read on for some follow-up information that we know you’ll find helpful as you kick off the fourth term.
Hector’s WorldTM material now online
Information from Bringing Hector’s World into the Classroom, a presentation given by Rachel Harrison and Victoria Anderson, is now on the Ulearn07 website. Material from other NetSafe presentations will be posted soon, so be sure to check back regularly for updates.

Draft Cybercitizenship Education Matrix
The concept of cybercitizenry dominated most of NetSafe’s workshops, and many of you expressed interest in contributing to NetSafe’s draft education matrix for its teaching. The matrix, which can be viewed here, aims to provide New Zealand schools with a framework for teaching cybersafety from Years 0-13. Send your feedback on it to Education Sector Manager Richard Beach before Wednesday October 31st.
Hector’s World™ resources
Attendees at the Hector’s World workshop on Thursday afternoon learnt about some exciting developments due to happen over the next few weeks. You can stay up-to-date with Hector’s World by regularly checking this page in the Hectors World section of the NetSafe website. Rachel Harrison, the communications manager for Hectors World Ltd., would welcome your questions and comments on rachelh@hectorsworld.co.nz.
Have you checked out the Hector’s World™ Teachers’ Forum yet?
A lot of you took time out to share your use of NetSafe and Hector’s World resources with the NetSafe team. By using the Hector’s World Teachers’ Forum you can share your ideas and be inspired by the work of other teachers while learning more about using Hector’s World resources with your students. Members of NetSafe’s education team also regularly contribute to the forum to help you deal with any cybersafety issues or incidents that may come up in your school. Click here to read more, or here to access the forum.
NetSafe resources
Richard Beach, our School Education Manager, enjoyed meeting so many of you at the NetSafe trade table. Those of you who got along to the table picked up a variety of our free cybersafety resources, including our pamphlets and posters, and learnt how to implement the NetSafe Kit for Schools in the coming school year. Now is a great time to disseminate our resources to your student community in preparation for their time online over the Christmas holidays; you can order more, free of charge, by downloading an order form and sending it to our Contact Centre at queries@netsafe.org.nz or faxing to (09) 362 0972.
