There are now a variety of online diagnostic tools which can help you to protect your system. This page will list some of the online services we have come across which can help you to keep your information safer and your system more secure.
McAfee Site advisor

McAfee Site Advisor allows you to find out detailed information about a website before you visit it, including a safety rating based on the presence of unwanted programs such as spyware and adware. All you need to do is enter the website address into their search option at the above link. You can also download software for Internet Explorer and Firefox which provides ratings while you are browsing.
Symantec Security Check

Symantec Security Check lets you run a free security check and a free virus (including spyware) scan. The security check provides information about the vulnerability of your computer to hackers and trojans. The Virus scan scans your computer for any known threats, based on a regularly updated database.
TrendMicro

TrendMicro HouseCall provides a free scan of your computer for viruses and spyware.
Also, there are many programs which you can download and run on your computer which can regularly scan for viruses / spyware, and in some cases stop them being installed on your computer in the first place. At NetSafe we don't recommend one product over another, however, the New Zealand Consumer Institute and publications like NetGuide magazine can offer excellent product information and comparisons of what is available.
