Identity Theft

Identity theft

Identity theft is when someone sets up a webpage (or uses documents like passports) to pretend they are you. Sometimes, on social networking sites, people can set up a page which looks like you made it, but it says mean things about you and makes you look bad. This is a form of harassment and any kind of harassment is not ok.

The good news is that there's heaps you can do about it. NetSafe is here to help if you need it. You can call us on 0508 NETSAFE, email us at queries@netsafe.org.nz, or message us at www.bebo.co.nz/netsafe.

To make a complaint about someone who is using your identity online without your permission, follow these steps and don't forget to get in touch with us if you need help or more information.
