The Kit is based on the Learn:Guide:Protect (LGP) framework. It outlines practical steps required to produce cybersafe schools and digital citizens. There are 26 checklist items grouped under 7 major headings.
The Kit is linked into the mylgp.org.nz website where you will find a range of practical examples, resources, and supporting material for each step. We encourage schools to add their own content to mylgp.org.nz as they work through the Kit.
The key competencies and values of the NZ Curriculum encourage the teaching of cybersafety and digital citizenship. Additionally, schools need to consider the legal requirements facing teachers and school management (particularly those responsibilities around student safety and wellbeing).
Internet safety at school is enhanced when multiple stakeholders are engaged and empowered to support the processes and activities identified in the kit. It is critical that senior management are involved, but so too should be teachers, pastoral care staff, BOT members, ICT network managers, parents and whanau and of course students themselves.
The kit presumes that the school has an existing vision for the use of ICT in learning, and is designed to work in harmony with the MoE’s elearning planning framework (eLPF)
