The internet has played a big part in keeping people connected over the past year – and that trend isn’t slowing down anytime soon – which makes it important that every person knows how to stay safe online. This is why Netsafe is hosting New Zealand’s first ever Netsafety Week designed to Make Aotearoa Safer Online. Find out more details on our official site here.
Why is Netsafety Week happening?
For more than 20 years, Netsafe has worked hard to create a safer more positive online experience for people. We’ve shared advice so that people feel empowered to take advantage of the opportunities offered by technology. But even then, problems can arise from an error in judgement, risk-taking behaviour or being targeted regardless of the precautions put in place which is when they often need incident support from Netsafe.
As the past year has only reinforced the importance of connectivity and because we’re seeing continuing to receive more requests from people needing help under the Harmful Digital Communication Act, we are hosting New Zealand’s first Netsafety Week to try to make a difference.
When is Netsafety Week?
The inaugural Netsafety Week will take place between 26 and 30 July. There will be a variety of activities people can participate in. As the programme and activities for the week are finalised we will be updating this page.

Become a Netsafety Week supporter
We’re looking for supporters to help us promote the positive power of a safe internet and the places available to get assistance within New Zealand. We provide the resources and you can choose how involved you want to be – a chat with mates, liking a post or sticking up posters at work will spread the message. It’s free to join and we’ll include your logo on our official campaign website (coming soon) and provide you with resources to promote the week.
By becoming a supporter you’re helping us connect people in Aotearoa with the information they need to keep them and their whānau safe. Anything you can do to spread the word helps and we’d love to have you join us.
If you’ve got ideas about how your organisation could amplify the campaign’s message, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Become a Netsafety Week sponsor
As a non-profit organisation we are also seeking sponsorship support to make Aotearoa’s first online safety week the best it can. If you’d like to partner with us by either sponsoring part of the week or offering in-kind support. If you’d like to know more about the sponsorship packages available, please email email@example.com.
