We’re excited to launch the new Netsafe Kit! The Netsafe Kit provides New Zealand schools and kura with a comprehensive set of tools and resources to create and maintain a safe online environment in a way that fits authentically with their own school community values and needs.
The Netsafe Kit for Schools was first introduced in 2000 and has undergone many iterations. The 2018 relaunch of the Kit marks our biggest yet. More than just a refresh, the 2018 Kit introduces new frameworks, programmes and a suite of online tools for schools and kura.
Here are a few exciting new features in the new Netsafe Kit:
The Netsafe Schools Programme:
The Netsafe Schools Programme helps schools establish, develop and promote online safety in their school community. A Netsafe School can proudly use the Netsafe Schools badge to show their school community they have a strong commitment to online safety. Any school can join, and many will already have in place the practices needed to be a Netsafe School.
Safeguard Planning Tools:
The new Kit features three self-service style digital planning tools to give schools guidance when proactively planning for online safety and digital citizenship. The tools have been designed to help schools review the current practices and needs of their school community, choose focus areas that will have the biggest impact for them and decide the steps they can take to achieve their own goals.
Policy and User Agreements:
Our refreshed policy and user agreements provide schools with guidance to strengthen legal protection for the school and staff by providing clarity and specifically defining safe and responsible use.
The Kit also features learning resources for use in the classroom, information around New Zealand legislation, guidance and support for managing an online incident and resources for engaging with the wider school community.
